WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines that learn, reason, and problem-solve on their own.
Understanding the 3 Stages of AI Development
- Narrow AI – Also known as Weak AI, this is what we use today. It’s designed to perform one specific task, like voice assistants(Siri, Alexa), translation tools, facial recognition, or even answering questions through platforms like ChatGPT
- Artificial General Intelligence – This refers to AI that can match or surpass human-level intelligence. It can reason, solve new problems, and learn across any domain, not just one. AGI would be able to write music, solve math, counsel people, and act with self-directed goals – all without needing human input. AGI wouldn’t just answer questions – it could plan, create, influence, and even “decide” morality. This is where we are heading. As researchers race to build human-like intelligence, we risk creating systems with power but no soul and influence without accountability.
- Artificial Superintelligence(ASI) – This is where AI surpasses all human intelligence – emotionally, intellectually, creatively, and in other ways that you can think of. It would develop its own values, make independent decisions, and control major systems.
As AI progresses, its influence moves from a helpful tool to an independent actor, challenging what it means to be human
Why Should Christians Care
- AI as a Voice of Authority
Many now turn to AI instead of Scripture or the Holy Spirit for guidance - Replacing Human Connection
AI “companions” simulate empathy but lack the soul and accountability God designed in relationships, now turn to AI instead of Scripture or the Holy Spirit for guidance - Idolatry in the Digital
AI becomes a modern idol when people place trust and reverence in machines over God
